The QDX series (specifically the 0.5 HP / 0.37 kW variant) is a globally standardized design for small, portable, top-outlet submersible drainage pumps. Unlike the elongated “pencil” borehole pumps meant to slide down narrow deep wells, a QDX pump is short, stocky, and sits flat at the bottom of an open water source.
It is specifically engineered for clean water applications with minimal debris, such as draining flooded basements, emptying swimming pools, transferring water from shallow open wells, or running small decorative fountains.

Dynamic Performance Breakdown
Because it is a high-volume, low-head centrifugal pump, its water delivery rate drops drastically the higher it has to push:
-
At 3 meters lift: It operates at maximum volumetric efficiency, pushing roughly 5,000+ Liters per Hour (Excellent for quick drainage or emptying pools).
-
At 10 meters lift: The flow slows to around 2,500 Liters per Hour.
-
At 15+ meters lift: The pump is fighting the weight of its own water column; flow trickles to a near stop.
Core Structural Features
-
Suction Strainer Base: The bottom of the pump features an integrated mesh screen that prevents pebbles, twigs, or debris larger than 2mm from entering the impeller chamber and jamming the motor.
-
Top Handling Design: It features a convenient top handle for easy lowering via a rope. The water being pumped travels up and around the motor housing before exiting the top outlet, which naturally cools the motor during operation.
-
Optional Float Switch: Many retail models come equipped with a teardrop-shaped mechanical float switch. This acts as an automatic on/off trigger—when the water level drops too low, the float drops down, cutting power to prevent the pump from running dry and burning out.
-
Build Materials: Typically features a cast iron or cast aluminum pump body, an aluminum motor housing, a stainless steel shaft, and a durable plastic or brass impeller.
Operating Restrictions (What it CANNOT do)
-
Not a Sewage Pump: A QDX pump cannot handle raw sewage, mud, leaves, or thick slurry. Thick mud will clog the bottom intake strainer instantly, causing the motor to overheat. If you need to pump dirty water with solid waste, look for a V1500 or WQ series cutting/sewage pump instead.
-
Never Lift by the Cable: Always tie a dedicated rope or nylon cord to the top plastic handle to lower and raise the pump. Pulling the pump up by its rubber power cable will rip the internal waterproof seals at the entry point, causing catastrophic electrical short circuits.
